Still stuck on the b list actors

Snorkeled at Ulua Beach. Okay but have seen better.

Today's Four Season sightings were Gary Coleman,
Paula Marshal http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005191/, and her husband Danny Nucci http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001572/.

Rain today and ash because they burn the sugar cane fields. Just saw that the noise I thought was the neighbors last night at 8:39 was actually a 3.4 earthquake by Haleakala.

Planned to revisit some area on the road to Hana. Instead we drove to the lava fields of La Perouse Bay and hiked its trails. We plan to go back and snorkel (we hear you can see dolphins in the morning).

Then we headed over to the beaches of Lahaina to snorkel at Honolua Bay (we got see fish that we had not seen before and there were 2 very friendly turtles that I was sure were going to run into me) and back to Kapalua (for pictures, everything is very close here). Trees are from parking lot at Kapalua.

Very sad! our last time in Lahaina and our last Annie's Shave ice:(

We got up at 2:30 am

We got up at 2:30 to drive up to the top of the volcano and watch the sunrise. We got there at 4:30 and it was about 37 degrees and pitch black. Here you can see the stars like never before. The Milky Way was highly visible and even a planet or two. Definitely worth it! We went to the top of the summit to watch for the sunrise and froze our booty's off. It was hard to take pictures when you could not feel your hands. I think the videos posted in backwards order.

We found out today that the band that played at our luau just played at a luau President Obama threw.http://www.usnews.com/articles/news/washington-whispers/2009/06/24/obama-to-host-a-hawaiian-style-luau-for-congress.html

Today we checked out Ukumehame Beach. Great place to watch surfers and get a tan. The beach is on one side of the road and the mountains on the other side.

This is Major Tom to ground control...

This morning was our first helicopter ride. It was incredible. We went around the entire island, landed on a ranch, and saw amazing sites!

The best way to end the day is our second home the Four Seasons with our cabana boy Richard.
We walked right by Hilary and her boyfriend again. I tried to take a picture but it was to far to do with a cell phone. Maybe next time.

Come sail away...parasail that is

We went parasailing from Lahaina Harbor. It was very peaceful and serene. We had a private boat and stayed up longer than most (because the company messed up). We wwere beteen the island of Lanai and the Maui mountains.

We ate at Cool Kats in Lahaina because the gave us a coupon. It was good enough. Then we went to D. T. Fleming Beach Park that had a lot of shade and crazy wind. Next we went to Kapalua Beach. It was crowded, had shade and great snorkeling. You didn't have to dive down to see everything was right below you.

Next we went and did some shopping and of course ended up at Annie's with a shave ice.

Then we scoped out the heliport for tomorrow's ride. I forgot to tell you about that hook up. We were sitting on Polo Beach and my phone rang. It was some guy from the helicopter company offering us an upgrade if we came in a day earlier. So not only were we getting $75 off the Hana/Haleakala trip now we are doing the whole island for $123 instead of $290.

Last of all we had to run to Wal-mart for milk $4.64 ($3.99 a couple of days ago). Then we could not leave! So we are stranded in the Wal-mart parking lot. Call the renter nothing can't get him. Thank the Lord again. The problem happened in the parking lot, it was cool outside 6pm, and my cousin came right over and took us to a friend of his that owns a rental co. and they opened up so we could get a vehicle. Tomorrow we will be picking up a Jeep. Our not so good rental dude, Paul, said that if we had another problem he would fully reimburse. I guess we will find out tomorrow. 3 strikes and your out Paul (flat tire because it was old and worn, rained in the car because the windshield was put on with road tar, and the car would not reverse or drive).

Pictures will be posted later. Mahalo for reading the blog! Aloha!!!!

Seeing stars ****

We began the day watching Transformers. I say it is okay. Mahalia gives it a thumb to the side

Then we thought we would do lunch at the Four Seasons. As we were shown to our beach side table we passed Hillary Duff and hockey player boyfriend Mike Comrie http://www.hollywoodrag.com/index.php?/weblog/hilary_duff_s_body_in_a_bikini_in_hawaii/and some dude having lunch. Thought about trying to snap a pic with the camera phone but she did seem like she was cool with that. After they left the table we went and grabbed her napkin and fork. Look for it on ebay. I am so just kidding. After we finished our quesadilla and gelato we went to lay on the comfy lounge chairs. It was way to hot. So we went to check out the waterfall we spotted. It turned out to be a kiddie pool area with Denise Richards on the poolside chatting and Tori Spelling sitting in the pool with her baby girl. Britney Spears lil'sis was laying out in one of the cabanas. We may have been able to snap a shot of Denise but I think Tori's nanny would have pounded us. After all the star sightings we decided to go next door to the massive Grand Wailea. No stars that we noticed but it is gigantic and it probably has its own zip code. We kind of got lost! There are multiple pool areas with rope bridges, tunnels, and slides. The place even has a chapel with a mote full of huge koi fish. There are multiple shops including Harry Winston. Check out our pi in front of one of the many fountains.http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20286360,00.html?xid=rss-topheadlines

That's hot!

I think Paris Hilton went to this luau and got her saying.

I think I want to marry a fire dancer.

A Luau Finally

Began the day at Polo Beach. It has some great shade but not much area for walking. The Fairmont Hotel next door has a lot of lounge chairs that you could borrow.

This is the luau we will go to tonight. I hope there is food we can eat.

We have driven around the entire coast now

We road along the west coast today... yada yada... and had Maui's best shave ice!
We ended the day walking from the house to Sugar Beach. It is considered the walking beach. I don't know why. The locals here always end up on the beach having a party. Every day it seems. Haven't seen to many hotties. The dudes here are short.

Our journey on the heavenly road to Hana

My cousin Gary said he would take us and we were glad because it sure seems like a crazy road. He even took us on the treacherous 4x4 route instead of having to back track the whole way.

Mahaila will give you her views and pics of Hana: tomorrow

Hey ya'll! Mahalia here and I got the low down on Hana for ya. We drove completely around the base of Haleakala and got to see some spectacular scenery. Its hard to pick a favorite spot because each had their own unique qualities. I liked the red sand beach but it was a little hard to get to. The black beach is something you just have to see to get just how special it is. Pictures just won't do it justice. Much of the coastline along the Hana road was very rugged and inacessible to foot traffic. Kalia's cousin did a great job as tour guide and was able to take us on the section of road most people don't get to go on. You would not believe the height of the cliffs there. Amazing! Hope you enjoy the pics of Hana!

Mokapu Beach than Dusty meets a Lamborghini

Mokapu Beach is a great place to lay out and cool off in the clear, calm water.
That night we went to the Maui Film Festival because everyone was talking about, it was free, and on the beach in front of The Four Seasons. To make it more interesting after scouting out the area the night before, we decided to take Dusty out for a treat. Yes! Valet parking at the Four Seasons. You heard me right! We decided to hang with the big dogs in effort to meet some A list actors to help with a movie we are working on. We pulled up with the corvettes and such and the guy asked us if we were checking in or their for dinner. I replied no to both trying not to laugh. If you have forgotten what Dusty looks like look back to the older post and add a lot more dirt and a ton of bird mess. Then we preceded to enter the Four Seasons and try and find the beach access. Finally we found it but no celebs yet. We did find a restaurant that we want to go back and eat at that is between the pool and beach. We found the area right out front and they had lounge chairs for us to use. So we hunkered down and waited for the movies. This was great! We faced the screen and the waves were crashing behind it, stars above, and a fire dancer off in the distance. We got to meet the producer but they were to young or to old. The movies are listed below.

Mr. Toad's Wild Ride on Steroids!

Today we went on our free sailing trip courtesy of Captain Jeff. We went snorkeling off Molokini were we had the clearest view so far of fish and coral. Then we headed off the coast of Maui to an area with a lot of sea turtles. We didn't get to stay long because of the troph and major winds that ended up being gale force winds. They served us lunch on deck. Salad was flying everywhere and people were yakkin' off the back of the boat. We decided to go below before the waves took our plate away and it we felt like we were cookin'. Things got even more intense heading back to the Ma'alaea Bay & Harbor. It was a lot of fun except when you got a whiff of hurl from the back. Water was even getting us down below. Best ride ever! And we didn't even have to wait in a line!!! Those were some gnarly waves we were totally stoked! Aloha!

Hot Cross Buns!

We went tanning on Cheng's Beach. Too hot today and no wind so we went walking and saw a guy wearing bugee smuggler's (banana hammock) a hat, and playing a guitar. He spotted us and started walking our way so we walked faster! Now the wind is here and blowing our patio furniture around.

The Lord just keeps on blessing us!

Today we sailed to the island of Lanai on a catamaran with Trilogy Excursions. You must do this if you go to Hawaii. Captain Jeff (our realtor's husband) got us a 2 for 1 deal. We left from the harbor in Lahaina and immediately they began serving fresh pineapple juice, homemade cinnamon buns, fresh fruit, and wraps. Yes! It is as good as it sounds.

We docked in Lanai and were taken by vans to the only beach with running water (Hulopoe Beach ). We were given chairs and mats for tanning. We could also snorkel, go for a nature walk, and check out the Four Seasons.

We decided to snorkel first. The sights here were truly amazing. The coral and the fish are vibrant. The parrot fish is so breathtaking that it makes you wonder how anyone could look at this and not believe in God. We found another sea turtle and followed him a bit. Our Captain, Brian, said that it was rare that we saw one in that area.

Back on land, we were given homemade chips and salsa (with pineapple added YUMMY). We ventured to the nature trail and the video will show that amazing site. Hopefully the color of the water is evident.

Next, we opted for a van ride through the town. This town only has 3300 people, one school K-12 (200 kids total), one gas station, and no crime. Sounds good! A barge comes every Thursday to bring supplies to the island. There is only small markets, no McD's or the like, and
no car dealerships. If you want a car it will come on the Thursday barge.

Before we left the island they prepared a Bar B Q for us. Teriyaki chicken, pasta, field peas, and POG (passion fruit, orange, guava) to drink.

During this adventure we kept running into this couple. As we talked during dinner of our careers and hometowns we found out he was a triplet and that he was on Oprah. I immediately remembered the episode. See the link attached. It is an inspiring story, especially for those that work for the school system. We met Kenya and his wife, Tomie.

With the wind in our sails we headed into the sun set while Oren serenaded us with his ukulele.

Life is good! God is good! No worries! Aloha! 1 Chronicles 16:34

Pics and video will be posted Thursday...

Old Women making Leis

We got to see some older ladies making leis by hand in Lahaina today. We got some video to share with you. We also discovered that if we want to be footloose and fancy free the rest of our lives, we cannot be pineapple princessess (at least not on Maui) There's no pineapple here! We will have to be sugar cane heiressess! There's plenty of that here. So, if you guys know of anybody here like that, make sure to hook us up!

Official Hawaiians

Well everyone it is official ! We are now Hawaiian. Today while visiting the quaint town of Lahaina we received a kiss for $5 from a hawaiian man and a lei. Kalia (Avery)and Mikala (Mahalia) are our Hawaiian names now. We will have them legally changed on Friday (jk). Anywho, while in Lahaina we ate at Aloha Mixed Plate and ordered a traditional hawaiian plate lunch. It was the Alii Plate. Considered the "Royalty" of plate lunches. It consisted of Lau Lau, Kalua pig and cabbage, Lomi Lomi Salmon, Poi, macaroni salad, rice and haupia (coconut pudding). We no likey this. Salty and bizarre. Poi is like a gray baby food.

Snorkeling at Makena

We forgot to tell of our first snorkeling adventure in Hawaii. My cousin Gary took us to Makena Landing and we were able to see colorful coral and fish. We also were able to swim with a sea turtle and get pictures (but that is on an underwater camera). Then he took us to trapse around at Twin Falls.

Have you had your pupu today?

On Monday, we decided to take it easy on Keawakapu beach. A very nice beach! The day before, our smoke detector battery went bad and we had to have the landlord come over and fix it for us. After getting a new battery installed, our landlord who also doubles as a ships captain for snorkeling expeditions offered to give us a free tour to Molokini and a discounted price on a trip to Lanai. So we relaxed on the beach and waited for him to call us with the trip info. We'll be heading to Lanai on Wednesday and snorkeling at Molokini on Friday. God is so good! After making a few stops on our way back home from the beach, our trusty, rusty stead Dusty had a blow out on the highway. Not more than 5 minutes after pulling over, a nice father and son came to our rescue and had us back on the road in 10 minutes. Again, God id sooo good! To finish up the day, we decided to explore more hawaiian culinary faire at the PuPu Lounge. Resisting the urge to order the pupu platter, we opted for the wahoo or butterfish and man was it delicious. We are definitely ordering that again!

Iao Valley

Yesterday, we spent the morning laying out in the sun and taking care of some housekeeping at our rental place. We decided to look around the West Mountains of Maui and ended up at the Iao Valley. It was a beautiful area that also doubled as a great workout climbing up and down the stairs. While out driving around, we happened upon a large beach where we got to see an ocean full of kiteboarders and sailboarders.

More Hawaiian Adventures

We began the day early with surfing lessons from Maui Wave Riders.
(Adventure #1- as you can see from our photo evidence) After a nap and little shopping, we later went on a wild goose chase to find some free books. Too bad we don't have pictures of that. Once we had our free stuff, we went back to town and had adventure #2 - Fish Tacos from Lulu's. We weren't to sure about it but given our committment to try all things new plus a little convincing from our waiter, Dallas, we dared and found out that it was good. Not at all what we expected. To finish up the evening, we walked across the street from Lulu's to watch the Maui sunset.

We are now 2 surfing wahine's

We went out today @7 am with our trusty instructor Justin and braved the gnarly waves of Maui. Our goal was 2 stick it once, but we managed to do it more. We are picking up our video later (which we probably can't post) but for now you can see our authentic surfing certificates. So, what did YOU do today?
Later, we shall pick up some local food, get some sun, and grill out on the patio. Of course, we will have our daily shave ice.

Makena State Park

We tanned at Makena State Park "big beach". It has red sand.

Then we ventured up the lava rock to "little beach" were some beach enthusiast choose to go "au natural". We left quickly.

Today is King Kamehameha Day

In honor of King Kamehameha day we wanted to eat local fair. Plan A was portugese hot dogs on the grill (the wind had other plans). Plan B-For the puu puu portion of the meal we had manapua (it tasted less like mana and more like pua).Which leads to plan C-Eggo's with Hawaiian Sun Premium coconut syrup. we give that 2 snaps up. Then we ended with some locally grown steamed green beans and for dessert Maui gold pineapple.
